Dylan doing it for the kids!

Return to News

New Zealander Dylan decided very early on during his volunteer stint at the Picaflor House Community Centre in Peru that the kids needed some extra playground equipment and decided to ask his Facebook friends for help. As he wrote when he posted this image, ‘At the moment this is the extent of the playground’.

As Dylan is a very sporty person, he decided goals and nets for the mini football field at Picaflor would be a good idea, so he rallied his friends back home in New Zealand: ‘Hey team! I am doing a big push to get these kids some equipment for Picaflor House. They really need some soccer goals and nets.’

‘I am challenging all of you to give a little to help out a lot! The kids have no playground or sports field at Picaflor House and I hope to help them out by saying that New Zealanders are a caring lot and will help to give generously towards building ... a mini sports field with mini soccer goals. If you would like to feel as though you are making a huge impact on these small children don't hesitate to get in touch and I can give you the details where to donate. I am hoping that you guys can help contribute significantly towards the costs involved. Globateer works solely as a non profit organisation and Picaflor House can only survive on donations so these projects will not go ahead until we have the funding.’

Dylan’s friends answered the call, the making of the goals was soon underway by one of the local villagers and we now have the finished goals. And they’re a great success with the kids as you can see from the pictures. A huge thank you to Dylan and the amazing New Zealanders who answered his call for help. As you can see from this delightful picture of the kids, they and all of us at Picaflor House are extremely grateful for your generosity.

Dylan is still working on getting the nets to surround the field – an important addition to prevent damage to windows and flower gardens. If you’d like to help with this, you can donate here: www.virginmoneygiving.com/picaflorhouse  Remember, a little goes a very long way in Peru so even a few dollars will help us achieve our goals (pun intended!).
